I walked into my local Walmart, just as I do every other Friday, not expecting to find much. For the last few months, the die cast selection had been barren. Picked over peg warmers were plentiful, but the good stuff was nowhere to be found. I looked for a few short minutes, and decided that nothing had changed and went on about my day. From the toy section, I made my way to the sporting goods to price some new ores for the kayaks I had just bought for my wife and I. After that, I decided to check one last time just to make sure I didn’t miss anything, and that’s when I saw it.
Setting on at the back of the toy aisle, was a fresh, newly set hot wheels dump bin. Not only was it brand new, it was overflowing with all the castings I’ve been hunting for for months. I could feel myself getting overly excited as I walked toward what I hoped was the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. I spent several minutes digging elbow deep into the bin. I found almost all the cars that I’ve been looking for for so long.
I took a few minuets and studied what I had picked out to bring home and add to my collection. As I went to walk away and show my wife my already amazing haul, I saw something that caught my eye, something that I had never seen in a hot wheels bin before, the 1982 Dodge rampage.
The Dodge Rampage Chrysler’s take on the El Camino. Built on Chrysler’s L series chassis, the rampage was Powered by a carbureted 2.2 l Inline four cylinder engine,making right at 96 horsepower. sadly, the rampage had a short life, only being produced from 1982 to 1984. Only 37,401 units were produced, making the rampage a rare find.
Though this isn’t the first time the rampage has made an appearance in the hot heels line up, this is the first time that I have been able to find one in the wild.
